Barry Zito, starting pitcher for the World Champion San Francisco Giants and former Cy Young Award winner with the Oakland Athletics, was presented Fisher House Foundation's Patriot Award by trustee Dale Beatty at the pregame Military Appreciation Day ceremony in AT&T Park in San Francisco on Sunday, May 26.
The Patriot Award was established in 2002 to recognize exceptionally supportive individuals and organizations to Fisher House.
Zito founded Strikeouts For Troops in April 2005, donating money to military non-profits every time he struck out an opposing batter. Soon, he had convinced more major league ball players to join the effort and since then Strikeouts For Troops has helped to raise awareness and over $2 million for wounded warriors and their families, including Fisher House.
The Foundation thanks Barry Zito and Strikeouts For Troops for all of their support and congratulates them on this well-deserved recognition.
