Lodging makes sizable donation to Fisher House

The company that provides lodging on post for Soldiers and families is helping make sure there’s a place for them and other visitors to stay when serious illness or injury strikes.

That place is the Fisher House, and Intercontinental Hotels Group – which runs Army lodging at Fort Gordon – donated $2,155 Sept. 5 to keep the facility and others like it in the black.

Fisher Houses provide temporary lodging in a comfortable, home-like setting for Soldiers and their families when a member of the family is going through a medical crisis. They are privately funded and depend on donations.

The Fisher House at Fort Gordon opened in April 1993.

Derek Nelson, IHG’s general manager at Fort Gordon, and Delaine Reeder of IHG made the donation to the Fisher House Serp. 5 during a visit to the facility. That donation brings the total IHG has given to the Fisher House to $41,323.

The funds donated by IHG were raised by selling old fans and old TVs replaced during the renovation of IHG’s Army hotels on Fort Gordon. The company also held “dress-down” days, during which employees made a donation in exchange for being able to “dress down” at work.

IHG has operated the lodging facilities at Fort Gordon for a little more than a year.
