For the month of September, the student council at St. Timothy School in Chantilly has been busy selling Gatorade during middle school lunches and arranging for a free dress day to benefit the Fisher House Foundation. As a result of their hard work, they are presenting Fisher House Foundation with a check for $1,000.
The charitable cause was chosen by the students as a way to honor service men and women and their families, in remembrance of the 10-year anniversary of 9/11. Fisher House Foundation donates "comfort homes," which are built on the grounds of major military and Veterans Affairs medical centers throughout the world. The homes allow family members to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease or injury.
The Fisher House program serves more than 12,000 families annually, and has made available more than 3 million days of lodging to family members since the program originated in 1990. Families stay at Fisher House for free.
