Today was the opening and dedication of a brand new Fisher House for veterans families.

This is the second house built in Augusta for families to stay for free while their veteran family member receives medical care.

"We're like a family we all came on Monday so we got a bond, we eat together and then when we get to the VA I meet up with them," said Sharon Creamer, one of the first wives to stay in the facility.

She said it's an honor and a humbling experience to be able to stay in this beautiful home while her husband has his annual evaluation.

"Here, it's a serenity, it's quiet, you can rest and relax because after you leave the hospital you're tired because you're taking care of your loved ones," creamer said.

This is the 56th Fisher House to open and the second in Augusta. The home has twenty rooms and allows families to stay for free, close to their loved ones; which is why CEO Kenneth Fisher said he continues to build these homes.

"It just helps the healing process overall having your family with you is the best medicine of all because sometimes medicine just isn't enough," said Fisher.

He said more than 150,000 families have been helped and it's saved those families almost $165 million. Fisher's thankful for the Augusta community, which he said helped tremendously to make sure there was a house for the nation's heroes.

"They defend this nation with their bodies and their souls and this is just our way of saying thank you and honoring their sacrifices," Fisher added.
