The Mary Bush Society Children of the American Revolution (CAR) of Greenwich has been learning about this year’s national project and programs. The national project this year is to raise funds for the Fisher House Foundation, which operates 54 Fisher Houses and 16 more in planning stage including New Haven. Fisher House builds “comfort homes” for military and veterans affairs medical centers that house wounded military and families free of charge. Their summer meeting was held at the Bruce Museum, which was a full afternoon of fun and educational programs that covered several topics, including the local town’s new streamline recycling, discussion of the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and the new Tower One and memorial being built, history and customs of Connecticut Indian tribes, the Fisher House Organization, and government studies program. The society has already had a busy year in Greenwich leading the pledge on Independence Day, collecting care packages for wounded soldiers recuperating at Fisher Houses, and donating new backpacks to the Appalachian Mountain Schools. The students have several activities on tap for the upcoming year that include plans to visit to the Albany, N.Y., Fisher House, participating in Putnam Cottage open house, co-sponsoring Wreaths Across America, field trip to view the 9/11 Museum and Tower One, and placing flags at Greenwich’s Revolutionary soldiers’ graves for Veterans Day.
