For the first time ever, White House Post 2120 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars hosted a four-man golf scramble at Kenny Perry’s Country Creek Golf Course in Franklin, Ky.
Aside from the success of the weather and golfer turnout for the first-ever event of its kind, a local legend also made an appearance.
PGA Tour champion golfer Kenny Perry, whose hometown is Franklin, Ky. and whose course hosted the event, happened to be there practicing for his upcoming events.
“That was a total surprise,” White House Post 2120 VFW Commander Bill Crawford said. “We were just excited about the opportunity to get some people together to play and help raise money for the Fisher House.
“We’re excited to be out here in the community doing something to help the veterans. With Kenny Perry being here, that just added to the excitement.
“That was a real bonus. His father served in World War II and we’re honored to have him out today. Anything we can do to get the Fisher House and veterans and their families a little bit more is always great.”
As Crawford alluded to, all the proceeds generated from the tournament went toward the Fisher House, which is a charity to help veteran’s families while they are recovering from the atrocities of warfare.
“The Fisher House is for veteran’s families who can’t afford to stay or don’t have a place to stay near or around their injured veteran while they are in the hospital,” Tennessee Fisher House President Andy Lawrence said. “It’s important to not forget the sacrifice the families of veterans make as well and we, at the Fisher House, want to continue to show them that we care, even after they have returned home.”
