Some employees at one of the Tri-State's best known companies spent their day giving back. Members of GE Aviation's Veterans Network spent the day helping other veterans. Local 12 News Reporter Angenette Levy shows us what they did to brighten the day for other vets and their families.
A group of GE Aviation employees spent the morning trimming, weeding and planting to spruce up the outside of the Fisher House at the VA. The house offers veterans, who are being treated at the VA Hospital, and their families, a free and homey place to stay. "It's unbelievable to come here. A lot of us know what they're going through so for us to be able to come and give back is really special for us."
Pat Davis and many of his colleagues are veterans. They're part of GE Aviation's Veterans Network. The group formed a few years ago to help veterans in the area. "Whatever we can do to make it more homeworthy, more like a place that you'd want to stay for a long period of time if you had to, makes it a lot better."
Doing a little landscaping may not seem like a big deal to some, but the people at the VA say it means a lot. "When an organization like GE or anyone else comes in and they redo this, the guests really enjoy it."
The Fisher House operates on donations. Cincinnati's
was the ninth in the country. At the end of this year, there will be 53 nationwide.
