Here's something really exceptional. We have reached the $1 million mark in our campaign to help the Fisher House military charity. The clothing company Geoffrey Beene graciously donated the final $50,000. They are patriots, and you should know that.
The campaign came about after Geraldo, Col. Hunt and I visited Walter Reed hospital last December. While there, we saw scores of little kids interacting with their grievously wounded dads and moms. To see that was heartbreaking. The families of our wounded warriors often have little money. They can't afford to fly to Washington and other hospitals around the country to be with their loved ones while their injuries are being treated and rehabilitated. So I knew I had to do something.
The opportunity arose when I interviewed President Obama on Super Bowl Sunday. I took my notes, had the president sign them and offered them for a $500 donation to the Fisher House, a charity Mr. Obama actually recommended. I thought we would raise a half-million dollars, but "The Factor" audience is so extraordinary, so exceptional that we have now reached a million dollars plus.
"The Factor" audience is the best. I knew you guys would respond, and you have. The Fisher House now has more than $1 million that it did not have two months ago.
Congratulations to the 2013 Newman's Own Award Winners
