The quad at Idaho State University is the place to be Easter weekend because ISU's Kappa Sigma Fraternity has planned two free events for the community.

On Friday, April 22, Kappa Sigma has organized a 24 hour bike-a-thon for their third annual Ride for the Troops. The gentlemen of Kappa Sigma will be camping out and riding in shifts around the quad for 24 hours.

The event starts at 4:30 p.m. and in addition to the bike-a-thon there will be many activities including live music, guest speakers, a donation-based BBQ, rock wall and an obstacle course.

There will also be a raffle with over $1,300 worth of prizes "ranging from free combos at Taco Bell to hotel suites," said Martin Baker, Kappa Sigma's treasurer. The activities conclude at 8:30 p.m.

The fraternity hopes to earn $1,500 all of which will go to Fisher House, an organization that provides a home for military families enabling them to be near a loved one during hospitalization.

Baker said the 24 hour bike ride is a different approach than they've done in past years because "this year we're going more for endurance. Troops don't quit on us and we're not going to quit on them."

"We hope to have a lot of fun and raise awareness and support for our armed service veterans," said Baker.

As if that wasn't enough, the gentlemen of Kappa Sigma will be back at the quad April 24 (Easter Sunday) for an Easter egg hunt.

"Last year we had 3,000 eggs and it took seven minutes to clear the quad," said Baker. This year they're adding an additional 2,000 eggs for a total of 5,000 eggs.

"It's going to be polka-dotted," said Baker.

There isn't an official age limit, but Baker said they would prefer participants to be younger than teens. In addition, there will be a side section for younger kids.
