The Bayou Bounty Hunters held a charity shooting match this weekend to benefit South Mississippi’s Fisher House.
The Bayou Bounty Hunters are a branch of the Single Action Shooting Society, a national organization in which members imitate life in the Old West through shooting competitions and attire.
The charity match, held in Louisiana, is a cooperative event by the 10 SASS clubs in Louisiana and Mississippi, which includes several hundred members. This is the second annual charity event that Bayou Bounty Hunters has hosted to raise money for Fisher House. Last year’s match brought in over $10,000.
Fisher House is a short-term residence home for ill or injured patients and their loved ones being treated at Keesler Medical Center or the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Biloxi. It can accommodate nine families at a time and serves a full range of active duty, retired military, and veterans from all branches of the armed services.
The center relies on donations, like those received from charity events such as the shooting match.
“This event with Bayou Bounty Hunters is actually our largest single fundraising event,” said Larry Vetter, manager of Fisher House. “It is a really great thing that they are doing and I hope they continue to do it every year.”
