A veteran of two American wars is literally seeing things more clearly after getting free eye surgery.
Jack Martin received the Lasik procedure thanks to a partnership between LasikPlus, the Wounded Warrior Project and the Fisher House Foundation.
The goal is to support military veterans and their caregivers with the gift of sight.
Martin was injured during active duty in Afghanistan and he also served in Vietnam. He admitted being nervous about the Lasik procedure, but says he now fully expects it to change his life.
"That was the most painless surgery I've had in my life. ... I can close my left eye and it's a little blurry, but i can see," he says.
It’s all part of a two-day Wounded Warrior Project in Portland. Dr. Michael Cornell of LasikPlus also performed the procedure on another veteran, Timothy Ruscigno, at no cost.
