Tribute to the Military Organization is holding its annual Tribute to the Miltary Run in honor of the men and women who serve and have served the United States of America in any branch of the military, and are currently fighting the Global War on Terrorism. The run, which began after the 9/11 attacks, is now in its 9th year and is scheduled for Sunday, February 8th. The organization is anticipating over 1,000 runners and walkers of all ages, wheel chairs, and spectators.
Tribute to the Military helps support the Fisher House Project at VA Hospital Miami, Walter Reed Army Hospital, and Bethesda Navy Hospital as well as homeless veterans and others suffering of PTSD and other injuries among other Miami military support organizations. Proceeds from this years race will benefit families of deployed personnel, the Fisher House VA Medical Center, support groups and services, Operation Brave Kids and to help deaf children and adults.
The race begins at 8am and at Merrick Park/Coral Gables City Hall 405 Biltmore Way; free metered parking will be available along city hall and the surrounding streets. Post Race Refreshments including bagels and fresh fruit will be provided as well as a limited menu of Shorty's BBQ that will be for sale. There will also be entertainment including the US Army Climb Wall, a Bounce House, Interactive Displays, US Army/Navy Simulators and more!
Participants can Register online at active.com until Febraury 4th, at FootWorks through February 7th, 2009 or at the race site the morning of the race. Awards will be given to males and females respectively in the following categories: Top 3 Overall, Top Masters, Top Wheelchair, Top 3 Age Groups, Military Top 3 Overall, and a Special Military Award for the Best Run Formation.
