The Fisher House of the Emerald Coast and Hard Rock Café have teamed up in a fundraiser to benefit the home that is a local source of free lodging for wounded warriors’ families.
For a donation of $5, military spouses (active, retired or reserve) with a valid I.D. can nominate spouses who “rock.”
The nominations should provide an explanation or story that supports the claim to awesomeness.
Each nomination will be displayed online at www.nwfdailynews.com and at the Hard Rock Café.
For a $1 donation, people will cast a vote for their favorite nomination at the Hard Rock Café located in Destin at Destin Commons.
The sooner the nomination is submitted, the better. Voting begins as soon as the individual nomination is posted and will end Feb. 7. The three nominations with the most votes will be read by a panel of judges who will determine the winner.
Kim Henderson, a member of the Fisher House Board of Directors, said she could not wait to read the nominations.
“That’s the best part,” she said.
All prizes will be awarded on Valentine’s Day at the Hard Rock Café.
All of the nomination and voting proceeds will go directly to the Fisher House. Since opening in September, the Fisher House has helped nearly 20 families with a medical crisis.
Tom Rice, also a board member of Fisher House of the Emerald Coast, said he hoped for a strong response to the first of what he hopes will be an annual contest.
Even small donations make a difference. Rice said one of the most recent donations was a handful of lap blankets handmade by a retired military spouse.
Even if this contest raises only enough for house supplies like bottles of soap, Rice will be grateful.
“That’s a big help,” he said.
Congratulations to the 2013 Newman's Own Award Winners
