About Hero Miles

Hero Miles Program

Thanks to your generosity, we have provided more than 40,000 tickets to wounded, injured, and ill service members and their families, worth nearly $63 million.

The nonprofit Fisher House Foundation administers the "Hero Miles" program in partnership with the Department of Defense in accordance with Public Law 108-375, Section 585, 2005 Defense Authorization Act, amended in 2011. Fisher House Foundation uses frequent flyer miles that have been donated by passengers of our airline partners to provide airline tickets to support wounded, injured, and ill service members and their families who are undergoing treatment at a military or VA medical center or who are attending authorized events.

There are two categories of eligible recipients:

  • Wounded, injured, and ill service members on approved leave may be given a round trip airline ticket for a trip from the medical center to their home or to attend an authorized event, if they are not eligible for government funded airfare.
  • Wounded, injured and ill service members may be given a round trip airline ticket to enable their family or close friends visit them while they are undergoing treatment at an authorized medical center.

Please note our agreements with individual airlines only permit airline tickets for wounded, injured, or ill service members and their families. These tickets can only be used for travel related to the service member’s medical condition.

HOW TO DONATE MILES

 

Thank you for your support! Fisher House Foundation, Inc., is a not-for-profit organization under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS code. Per current IRS laws, frequent flyer miles are not tax deductible.

 

Tax Deduction Information

The Internal Revenue Service does not recognize donations of frequent flyer miles as tax a deduction. For further information consult IRS Publication 526.

 

Confirmation of Donations
To protect donor privacy, Fisher House Foundation only receives the number of miles donated and date donated. For confirmation of donated miles please contact the airline directly.
