No matter the outcome of this year’s Warrior Games, there are nine non-profits who have already considered themselves winners. These organizations have teamed up to host the Warrior Games “Family Program” to proudly support the families of the athletes.
Fisher House Foundation has partnered with the Bob Woodruff Foundation, Semper Fi Fund, and Armed Forces Financial Network, America’s Fund, Hope for the Warriors, Navy Safe Harbor Foundation, Operation Homefront and the USO Warrior and Family Care to provide a once in a lifetime experience for hundreds of family members.
The non-profits have come together to create an all-inclusive experience for these families, providing airfare, lodging, transportation and meals for families of athletes at the Warrior Games.
Participating in Warrior Games is an integral part of the rehabilitation process for so many wounded warriors; their success is only amplified by having their families witness their triumphs.
“I’m extremely grateful that my girlfriend and my daughter got to come out,” said Sgt. Anthony McDaniel, USMC, and a returning competitor. “Last year, my brother came out as well. That family support means a lot to see all that we’re doing.”
For some athletes, this is the first time they have seen their family in quite some time. For Air Force Captain Sarah Evans, having her family here was particularly emotional for her.
“My husband is here, along with my mom and stepdad. It’s incredible to have them here. I got to see them last night and that was actually the first time my mom has seen me walk on my prosthetic. It’s really great having them here to show them how far I’ve come,” Evans said.
Thanks to these non-profits and some incredible local support of volunteers, the family program has been able provide these families with the opportunity to see their loved ones thrive.
