The 19 Fred Astaire Dance Studios in New England are partnering together to recognize, honor and give back to some of the most amazing heroes.
On Nov. 10, the New England Region of Fred Astaire is hosting a “Dancing With Our Heroes” gala to benefit the Friends of Fisher House Connecticut. The Fisher Houses are the military version of the Ronald McDonald Houses.
A Fisher House provides a place to stay free of charge to military families while their loved one undergoes treatment at a VA medical center. This ranges from the parents of a young soldier with a traumatic brain injury to the spouse and children of a soldier who has lost a limb in battle to the wife of a veteran who served in WWII and is living out his final days.
The dance competition will be between military heroes and their professional dance partners and winners will be chosen by celebrity judges and audience voting.
Timothy McFeaters, the New England Fred Astaire special projects liaison, describes a hero as “anyone who has served in the military or who has a spouse who is serving or who has served.” Every Fred Astaire Dance Studio in New England, including the Middletown location, is donating at least two instructors and 20 dance lessons each to prepare the heroes for the event.
To nominate a hero, to volunteer to be one of the competing heroes, to inquire about sponsorships and donations, or to purchase a ticket to the gala, call the New England Office of Fred Astaire at 860-788-7150 and speak with Timothy McFeaters or Karen Green.
