Salt Lake City Fisher House volunteer Renee Tanner selected as

Fisher House Foundation Volunteer of the Year

 

June 7, 2013 (Rockville, MD) – Renee Tanner, of Salt Lake City, UT, is the winner of the “Fisher House Foundation Volunteer of the Year” award, presented to an outstanding member of the community who volunteers time and energy to help our military members and their families at their local Fisher House.

 

Renee has been volunteering at the Veteran’s Medical Center Salt Lake City Fisher House since it opened in 2011, providing her time, talents and compassion to the nearly twenty families who stay at the Fisher House each day. 

 

"I love our country and our Veterans. Volunteering is my way of thanking them," said Tanner. "They find comfort and support at the Fisher House during difficult times. They remember not a house, but a home filled with kindness and love."

 

As a Delta Airlines Flight Attendant, Renee manages to log her volunteer hours between her busy flight schedule.   In addition, she has also recruited local groups, including her fellow Delta employees, to volunteer as well. 

 

“I tell people I would never be able to run the Fisher House without Renee,” said Salt Lake City Fisher House Manager Quinn Kiger-Good. “Our mission is to provide a home away from home that offers hope, community and healing. Renee is the fingerprint of that mission in every minute and hour she blesses this home.”

Fisher House Foundation has spent more than 20 years serving our military men and women and their families by providing free lodging at military and veterans medical centers nationwide.  Their mission could not be supported without the invaluable help of their volunteers, who provide a total of over 170,000 volunteer hours annually.

 

Other finalists include Cindy Funderburk from the Fisher House at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Hospital in Anchorage; Cindy Clabaugh from the Fisher House at the San Diego Naval Medical Center; and Grace Blancett from the Fisher Houses at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.
