Golf outing held to benefit veterans and military families

MAINEVILLE, OH (FOX19) -

Golfers hit the links Monday to raise money for the Fisher House Foundation, which serves as a 'home away from home' for military families close to a loved one suffering from an illness, disease or injury.

The 8th annual Carstar Golf Outing was held at TPC River's Bend golf club in Mainville.

The Fisher House provides free or low-cost housing to veterans and military families receiving treatment throughout the country. Locally, it serves families at the Cincinnati VA Medical Center on Vine Street.

"We brought in Mike Schlitz who was a severely injured troop. Back in '08 he was burned up pretty bad, but his mother spend ten months in the Fisher House while he was rehabbing," said Carstar CEO Jim West.

There was also a patriotic flag jump during the golf outing, as well as a flyover by a B-25 bomber.

Organizers say over 140 golfers took part in the event.
