A charity golf day at Blackwell Golf Club raised £10,000 for QEHB Charity and Help for Heroes. The money will go to the Fisher House appeal which both charities are supporting.

The event, held at Blackwell Golf Club in Bromsgrove, was organised by Peter Thompson, Project Manager at VINCI Construction UK, the company currently building Fisher House at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

Peter said: “I’m privileged to be project manager heading the team on site to construct this facility.  As well as providing world class care for our troops, Fisher House will provide world class care and support to family members staying at Fisher House, ‘a home away from home’ within walking distance of the hospital.  It will allow military patients to get off the wards and spend some time with their families and friends in a relaxing and comfortable environment”.

Eighty golfers enjoyed the competition, refreshments at the Half Way House and a three course meal in the evening, followed by a presentation to the winners.

Mike Hammond, QEHB Charity Chief Executive said: “We had a great day on the golf course and my thanks go to Peter for all his hard work in arranging the day. It’s great to know that as well as being our contractors and caring about the building itself, VINCI really care about the military patients and their families who will benefit from Fisher House once it’s complete. We have a great relationship with them and, although we know we will have a fantastic state-of-the-art building when they leave the site next year, we will be sad to see them go.”
