For most of us, the Holidays bring chaos, parties and present shopping. There aren’t enough hours in the day to finish our usual holiday duties. However, this season consider taking a moment to think about our service members and their families.
Some of these service members won’t be able to join their loved ones because they are protecting this great nation. Others can’t afford to fly home, and some are in the hospital recovering from both visible and invisible wounds in the struggle to protect us.
This is where Fisher House Foundation’s Hero Miles steps in. This program allows Americans to donate their frequent flyer miles to Fisher House Foundation and in turn, Hero Miles will fly wounded, injured and ill service members and their loved ones.
For one female service member, Hero Miles was her angel. Currently struggling with stage four cancer in Houston, this woman had not seen her parents in seven years. After obtaining a pass from her doctors to travel, Hero Miles flew her home to the Philippines to see her parents for Christmas.
For another wounded warrior, Hero Miles flew his wife to his bedside while he was recovering from his injuries. Hero Miles then flew his wife to and from their hometown to the hospital to keep their family together during such a tough time in their lives.
During one Christmas, a mom got the call that her son was critically injured and Hero Miles flew her to Texas to be with her son during his recovery. She remained with her son for over a year to help him. Hero Miles continued to fly the rest of his family to visit him during the healing process.
For these wounded warriors, being home for the holidays is the least this nation can do to thank them for their service. Help fly these heroes home by donating your frequent flyer miles. Fisher House Foundation is proud to partner with AirTran Airlines, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, United Airlines and US Airways. To be a hero to a hero this Holiday, consider a donation to Hero Miles. http://www.fisherhouse.org/programs/hero-miles/
