New York & San Antonio - November 18, 2010 – In an amazing show of support for our military and their families, Americans came together to raise more than $515,000 to Fisher House Foundation as part of the national promotion organized by Clear Channel Radio on Veterans Day, November 11. The total included a generous contribution of $250,000 from the USAA Federal Savings Bank.
"We are humbled by the generosity of the American people and thank everyone who has made a donation to our military families on this Veterans Day," said Ken Fisher, Chairman of the Fisher House Foundation. "We thank Clear Channel Radio for their unparalleled support in this effort. The depth of our gratitude to our men and women who have worn our nation's uniform – and who have put their own safety at risk to defend ours – seems to know no end. We look forward to putting these funds to use to build yet another Fisher House that will serve our military families in need."
Founded in 1990, the Fisher House Foundation builds "comfort homes" for families of wounded service members, and other military or veteran patients, receiving medical treatment at VA and military hospitals around the world. Since its inception, more than 130,000 families have stayed at one or more Fisher Houses, saving more than $150 million in lodging costs alone.
On Veteran's Day, there was a special on-air takeover across Clear Channel Radio where live and pre-recorded mentions or vignettes were aired each hour between 6:00 am and 8:00 pm to raise awareness of the Fisher House, its efforts and to ask Clear Channel Radio's audiences to donate funds via text message, over a toll free number, or online across their hundreds of radio station Web sites. The promos were scripted by Clear Channel Radio's in-house creative team, the Creative Services Group (CSG); while local markets produced customized versions with Clear Channel Radio local and national talent all lending their voices to tell the story of Fisher House and its families, and to ask listeners for their support.
"We are proud of our stations and thank our listeners for their amazing support of our Veterans and our active duty military all over the world," said Clay Hunnicutt, Senior Vice President of Programming at Clear Channel Radio. "Clear Channel Radio's celebrity talent and creative group of in house marketers have spent countless hours getting behind this campaign. They have shown how committed our organization is in helping support our country's heroes."
About Fisher House
The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's ilitary in their time of need. Because members of the military and their families are stationed worldwide and must often travel great distances for specialized medical care, Fisher House Foundation donates "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times - during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury. There is at least one Fisher House at every major military medical center to assist families in need and to ensure that they are provided with the comforts of home in a supportive environment. Annually, the Fisher House program helps 12,000 families and has made more than three million days of lodging available to family members since it originated in 1990.
