It was a whole box of Texas, special delivery for the Marine from Blooming Grove.
A gift box of Texas-themed gifts was delivered Tuesday to PFC Matt Davis, who remains in Maryland near Bethesda Naval Hospital receiving physical therapy after being injured in battle in Iraq on May 1.
The box of gifts was delivered to the Fisher House residence unit where Davis is staying with his mother, Pam, on Tuesday by staff members from U.S. Rep. Joe Barton's office. The box was shipped through Barton's office to expedite its delivery, and keep it from getting caught up in the military postal system.
"Matt was so very appreciative of the thought and the generosity of his friends in Texas," his mother Pam said after the gift box arrived.
A group of employees from Corsicana National Bank and Trust began gathering the Texas-themed gifts after reading a Daily Sun article about a visit Davis had from Beverly Young, a Florida congressman's wife, and her promise of a chicken fried steak dinner for Davis.
Davis continues his physical and occupational therapy daily at the hospital where he spent two weeks recovering from his battle wounds.
Those wishing to send cards or letters to Davis may address them to: Fisher House, Attention Matt and Pam Davis, 24 Stokes Road, Bethesda, MD 20814-5002.
