The Poth Junior High School Student Council held a donation drive Nov. 8-20 to collect items to give to the Fisher House in San Antonio. The Fisher House is a place where the family members of soldiers who are injured can stay until they can take their injured family member home.

Some of the items that were collected included saran wrap, aluminum foil, paper towels, and other nonperishable items. The student council officers were then taken to San Antonio to drop off the items that they had collected. While there, they got a tour of the house.

In the kitchen, every family had a little cabinet to store their nonperishable food items, and a small place in a refrigerator for the foods needing to be refrigerated. There were also a couple of dishwashers for the use of everyone occupying the house. Outside in the back yard, there was a circle that was broken in one place ‹ to represent that although a person's wounds may be healed, they are never fully recovered.

The student council also collected toys for the Wilson County Sheriff Santa program. A Winter Wonderland Dance was held Dec. 14. Admission to the dance was an unwrapped gift. Over 100 gifts were collected and taken to the Wilson County Sheriff's Office to be added to the Sheriff Santa program.
